Research Ethics Evaluation

The University Steering Committee was established in 2011, comprising of three committees : the Ethics Committee for Research Involving Human Subjects (JKEUPM), and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

i) Ethics Committee for Research Involving Human Subjects (Jawatankuasa Etika Universiti untuk Penyelidikan Melibatkan Manusia, or JKEUPMstarted as The Medical Research Ethics Committee. JKEUPM's specific role is to protect research participants, and to ensure that researchers observe the basic principles in the use of human subjects. JKEUPM's stance and decisions are based on the principles expressed in the Declaration of Helsinki (2008).

ii) The primary responsibility of the Institutional Animal Care and Use (IACUC) is to ensure, on behalf of UPM, that the care and use of animals for scientific purposes are humane and ethical, (and in compliance with the Guide). The IACUC also ensures that the use of animals for research in justified, and incorporates the principles of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement.

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor acts as secretariat in ensuring the management and implementation of this committees.
