SERVICE INNOVATION AWARD (AIP) AND INNOVATION IDEA AWARD (HII) UPM
1. SERVICE INNOVATION AWARD
Introduced in 2013, the Service Innovation Award is a formal recognition platform for Responsibility Centres (PTJ) that demonstrate quality innovation results contributing to organisational effectiveness. It also serves as one of the supporting criteria for the UPM Administrative Management Star Rating.
Competition Categories
There are two (2) contested categories:
Technical Category: Projects that apply technical knowledge such as engineering, applied sciences, creation of new equipment, or computer system development.
Management Category: Projects related to solving administrative problems, work procedure/system innovations, form consolidation/new form implementation, and initiatives that enhance customer satisfaction and productivity.
Entry Requirements & Eligibility
The innovation must be an original idea generated by staff or a group of staff from a PTJ at UPM.
Submissions and nominations must be endorsed by the Head of PTJ.
Each PTJ is allowed to nominate a maximum of three (3) innovation projects per category.
Contested innovations must have already been implemented or applied during the evaluation year.
INELIGIBLE Submissions: Innovations resulting from research and development (R&D) that have no connection to organisational quality improvement, innovations intended for commercial purposes, or innovations that are no longer in active use.
Rewards and Prizes
For both categories (technical and management), winners will receive:
1st Place Winner: RM1,000.00 with a certificate.
2nd Place Winner: RM750.00 with a certificate.
3rd Place Winner: RM500.00 with a certificate.
Challenge Trophy: Awarded to the project that secures the highest overall score across categories.
Star Rating Certificate: Based on score brackets; GOLD (90%-100%), SILVER (80%-89.99%), BRONZE (70%-79.99%), and PARTICIPATION (below 70%).
2. INNOVATION IDEA AWARD (IDEA InQ)
First introduced in 2015, the Innovation Idea Award focuses on the idea generation stage. This competition recognises UPM staff who contribute practical, unique ideas with high potential to be developed into full-fledged Service Innovation or Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) projects in the future.
Entry Requirements & Eligibility
Open to all UPM employees, either individually or in groups (maximum of 2 members).
Each individual or group may submit more than one entry (one form per innovation idea submission).
Ideas must be innovative, original (not copied from any other source), deliver a positive impact on duties at the PTJ, and be realistic for development into actual innovation projects.
Submissions MUST be accompanied by clear, detailed explanations in the form of illustrations, sketches, or diagrams.
Must obtain endorsement from the Head of PTJ / Head of Administration / Deputy Registrar / Assistant Registrar at the respective PTJ.
Criteria for Quality Ideas
The panel of judges will evaluate entries based on:
Clarity of targets and solution objectives aligned with current scope of work.
High-impact potential promising savings in time, cost, or human resources.
Reasonable/low development cost with the capacity for rapid implementation.
Potential to be transformed into a project suitable for adoption by other PTJs or organisations.
Rewards and Prizes
Shortlisted entries (Top 10 ideas) will advance to the Presentation Session.
The TOP 3 IDEAS will each receive a cash prize of RM300.00 with a certificate.
