April 3, 2026, UPM – The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently conducted a site visit to the high-tech agricultural facilities at UPM’s Faculty of Agriculture, specifically the Closed-House Poultry System and the UPM Plant Factory.
The visit was joined by Prof. Dr. Loh Teck Chwen, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Mr. Shahriman Hashim, Head of Administration for the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation).
This modern agricultural initiative applies the concept of artificial lighting and a controlled environment to produce vegetables sustainably. By utilizing minimal water, achieving higher productivity, and remaining pesticide-free, this approach supports UPM’s efforts to strengthen national food security through consistent, safe, and high-quality production.

This advanced livestock facility is equipped with temperature and humidity control systems, featuring a three-tier cage system capable of housing up to 7,500 broilers. The system's efficiency ensures a stable and quality supply of protein sources, directly contributing to the food security agenda.

This visit reflects UPM’s ongoing commitment to leading high-tech agricultural innovation in alignment with the food security agenda, ensuring a sufficient, safe, and sustainable food supply for the future.
