Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman is new UPM Deputy VC (Student Affairs and Alumni)

 

SERDANG, 1 September - The Ministry of Higher Education has announced the appointment of Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan Sulaiman as UPM’s new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) for three years beginning 1 September 2017 until 31 August 2020. 

The appointment was made in a letter signed by YB Dato Seri Idris Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education on 28 of August 2017.

Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan Sulaiman, 48, replaced Prof. Dr. Mohamad Shatar Sabran, who was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) on 24 February 2017.

Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan is an expert in the field of Biomedical Science and is a professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM.  

He obtained his Degree in Veterinary Medicine from UPM in 1994 and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1999. 

Born in Kuala Rompin, Pahang, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan was a tutor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,n UPM in 1994. He then worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1999 and was appointed as Associate Professor and Professor in 2005 and 2009, respectively.

Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan was the Head of Department of Biomedical Sciences from 2001 to 2003, Deputy Dean (Student Affairs and Graduate Studies) from 2006 to 2012.  He was also appointed as the Principal of the Seventeenth College since 2012 and the Chair of the Residential College Principal Board since 2013.

Prof. Datin Paduka Dr Aini Ideris, the Vice-Chancellor of UPM believes that the appointment of Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan is right as he is able to uphold the university's mission in producing  quality and marketable graduates as well as to empower UPM students with excellent soft-skills and business-skills which would further enhance their competency.

"Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan’s portfolio will require him to be at the helm of the entire administration of the Deputy Vice Chancellor's office (Student Affairs and Alumni) as well as the development of university students."

“He is also responsible towards activities under the Co-curriculum and Student Development Centre, Centre of Entrepreneurial Development and Graduate Marketability, Sports Centre, Alumni Centre, Colleges, Student Police Volunteer Corps and the Reserve Officer Training Team (ROTU/PALAPES)," says Prof. Aini.

During his service in UPM, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan has participated in more than 2,000 activities on student character building and programmes organised by colleges, university and at national level as well as the Advisor to many Student Clubs and Organisations.

Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan has published more than 150 publications in the form of journals, proceedings, books, book chapters and technical reports based on the various research he has conducted.

He is also frequently invited as Editor of Research Publications for various High Impact Factor International Journals.

Other than that, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan was the Editorial Board Member for Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Editorial Board Member for New Journal of Science, Editorial Board Member for Pharmacologia, Editor for Advances in Medical and Dental Sciences Journal, Associate Editor for Eurasian Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Medicine and Technical Editor for Asian Network for Scientific Information Journal.

Prof. Dr. Roslan is also on the Evaluation Panel of Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) in the development of the Health Sciences Curriculum at the local universities. Apart from that, he is also an athlete, mainly in squash and tennis where he has participated in  many Inter University Games.
